It’s so refreshing to see a new band who don’t take themselves too seriously, although the fact that the music is also pretty enjoyable always helps. That’s exactly what makes ‘I Might Just Be‘ from Southampton duo The Diamond Age. With all the charisma and style of early Hot Chip, Matt Canning and Bilu Acharjee have produced an effortlessly listenable track with a simplistic, effective chorus that resonates around your head long after the music has stopped.
The short guitar riffs are as smooth as can be whilst the bass provides a bouncing, lively foundation to keep the track from getting bogged down. With a playful sound that is sure to have crowds of trendy London twentysomethings dancing around in their casually suave way, The Diamond Age are certainly on the way up – having just played at The Great Escape is a pretty good sign.
All the elements combine to create a track that is a sure-fire smile bringer, with a video showing off their lighter side certainly aiding their cause. This is the perfect way to start off a lazy summer day so just sit back with friends and a few drinks and stick this on loop for the day – you still won’t be overplaying it.
