Rormix Picks #17

Just when you thought that everything was falling into place and I had finally found a bit of consistency, something goes wrong… Whilst I was hoping to brag about how brilliantly Rormix had been in creating an upgrade for their picks each week, technology failed me and left me stranded – resulting in this week’s Wednesday selection. Never mind, big technological advance coming next week! For now, however, here are your 5 picks for this week;

Dream Lake – Let Us Stay In The Light

Swedish dream pop duo Dream Lake are comprised of the professional dancer and lead vocalist Isabella Svärdstam and multi-instrumentalist and music producer Niklas Willar Lidholm. Last week they released the music video for their single “Let us Stay in the Light”, portraying the idyllic Swedish 60′s into a dreamy pop video. The making of the video begun when Niklas Willar Lidholm stumbled upon and old super 8 film from the 60’s that his dad had shot in his youth.
The band have received praise from critics and fans for their self-titled EP, released late 2013, and the cinematic videos released to accompany the recent singles ‘Fired Up’ and ‘In The Lights’. You can watch all three videos on Rormix by clicking the images below.

Joy Surrender – Escape

Joy Surrender is singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tristan Irvine’s solo project, a poignant mix of ethereal vocals, evocative lyrics and captivating melodies, infused with a cinematic quality capable of showing a powerful vulnerability.

Joy Surrender marks a new chapter in Tristan’s career, as he takes on the role of the singer-songwriter, putting down his thoughts on paper, letting his voice take the spotlight. Right from the first note, it is clear Tristan yearns to invite the listener on a journey to a world of intimacy and inspiring melancholy. The intricate layers of synths and keyboards, familiar to fans of his instrumental music, are enriched with spellbinding vocal lines, flowing beautifully over a landscape of heart-rending piano harmonies and passionate orchestral arrangements.
