Just when you thought that everything was falling into place and I had finally found a bit of consistency, something goes wrong… Whilst I was hoping to brag about how brilliantly Rormix had been in creating an upgrade for their picks each week, technology failed me and left me stranded – resulting in this week’s Wednesday selection. Never mind, big technological advance coming next week! For now, however, here are your 5 picks for this week;
Dream Lake – Let Us Stay In The Light
Swedish dream pop duo Dream Lake are comprised of the professional dancer and lead vocalist Isabella Svärdstam and multi-instrumentalist and music producer Niklas Willar Lidholm. Last week they released the music video for their single “Let us Stay in the Light”, portraying the idyllic Swedish 60′s into a dreamy pop video. The making of the video begun when Niklas Willar Lidholm stumbled upon and old super 8 film from the 60’s that his dad had shot in his youth.
The band have received praise from critics and fans for their self-titled EP, released late 2013, and the cinematic videos released to accompany the recent singles ‘Fired Up’ and ‘In The Lights’. You can watch all three videos on Rormix by clicking the images below.
Jingo – 1q84
Todays featured artist is Jingo, a transatlantic, alt-rock, four-piece formed in early 2013 by couple, Jack and Katie Buckett, and rhythm section, Joe Reeves and Chris Smith.
Jingo’s self-recorded debut album, “The Art of Loving”, was released in September 2014 and has since had tracks played on BBC London Introducing with Gary Crowley and Amazing Radio with Greg Porter. The Release coincided a tour of the US with friends, ‘Not Blood Paint’. and the band are now planning a new EP along with another tour in the first half of 2015, this time around Germany and Western Europe.
Dream Stretcher – The Fall
Los Angeles based electronic duo, Dream Stretcher, creates ambient bass-driven beats mixed with rich vocals and ethereal harmonies bringing dream pop and chillwave together for a unique sound.
This Duo has recently been featured in ”Les inrocks” it is one of the most famous music magazines in France since the 90′s, and every day they pick a song of the day. This time it was the wonderful music of Dream Stretcher!
Bogan Via – Kanye
Bogan Via is Bret Bender and Madeleine Miller. BOGANVIALAND is the band’s second extended play album and it further develops their unique synth-pop sound.
Bogan Via has made quite a mark on the scene, quickly playing packed shows including a European tour and festival appearances at: Insomnia, San Diego Music Thing, Viva Phx, & Summer Ends. Bogan Via’s ability to win over fans with their unique sound has already earned them opening spots for the likes of: Little Dragon, Todd Terje, Darwin Deez, Twin Shadow, Austra, Yacht, and many more, as well as remixes by: Geographer, Miniature Tigers, Database and others.
Joy Surrender – Escape
Joy Surrender is singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Tristan Irvine’s solo project, a poignant mix of ethereal vocals, evocative lyrics and captivating melodies, infused with a cinematic quality capable of showing a powerful vulnerability.
Joy Surrender marks a new chapter in Tristan’s career, as he takes on the role of the singer-songwriter, putting down his thoughts on paper, letting his voice take the spotlight. Right from the first note, it is clear Tristan yearns to invite the listener on a journey to a world of intimacy and inspiring melancholy. The intricate layers of synths and keyboards, familiar to fans of his instrumental music, are enriched with spellbinding vocal lines, flowing beautifully over a landscape of heart-rending piano harmonies and passionate orchestral arrangements.
