Helices make a welcome return to these here pages as their latest offering is a stone cold stunner. You’ll find it hard not to become instantly captivated by the synthesis that surrounds you and acts as though it, rather than you, is firing the synapses and calling the shots here.
As the sounds shoot between your ears with all the reckless abandon of Dick Dastardly and Muttley, there’s an organised manner to their somewhat confusing approach and there’s no doubting that Helices have been able to fuse the traditional elements of a pop song with their own, slightly more left-field ideas. It becomes ever-so haunting in places, as though a shadowy figure keeps appearing in the corner of your eye, watching over you, perhaps with the intention of striking any minute now and unleashing an evil plan. I may be reading Dracula at the moment, that’s irrelevant. There’s never the feeling of trying to be too clever with the sounds yet it is much more complex than your average slice of electronic waffle that floods the radio.
This is a beast of a track that is well worth dipping your toes into. Come on in, the water is fine.
