Sweet, sweet music. How I adore thee. Whether it’s an early winter morning or the middle of a summer afternoon, you never fail to bring a smile to my face. This beauty from Pale Honey has indeed brought such a fulfilling grin, spanning from ear to ear, plastered across the front of my noggin as if someone has just presented me with a hearty slice of tiramisu.
The almost minimalist approach that this song opens with is simple yet its stripped back nature hints that there are much greater things to come – and it is most certainly not a red herring! A confident vocal brings you through the calmer opening before deceiving you and beckoning in harsh guitars that’ll make you regret turning the volume up to full on the assumption that it’s a bit of an ‘atmospheric’ offering. There’s a wonderful captivation of an array of moods in a similar way to some of PJ Harvey’s best outings, you’ll find yourself being led down more twists and turns than an Agatha Christie novel without a small Belgian man in sight.
As you get wrapped further into this mesmerising piece of music, you’ll forget where you are and it’ll feel like nothing except the music matters any more. That’s not a bad frame of mind to be in by any means.
