Bear with the fact that the first few seconds of this track have you wondering if I’ve turned onto finding the next big pop banger, this one goes far deeper than just a stunning voice. In fact, while the exquisite Florence-esque vocals do act as the perfect centrepiece for this aural excursion there’s barely a foot put wrong by London-based Fours as they bring the indie – pure and simple.
Sure, much of the song is pretty predictable but that’s because they’ve stuck to a batch of hallmarks that have served so many musicians so well for decades on ends and, with added bouncing bass lines and funk-filled guitar riffs, they do bring more to the standard indie-pop song than you might think on first listen. But at the heart of it all is a voice that belts away like a siren and catches onto your ear so tightly that there’s a pretty decent chance that it could tear it away from the side of your head. Maybe that’s where the damage comes in.
So what if this sounds like something you’ve heard before? There’s a reason we love those old songs so much and this beauty has the real potential to become an instant classic.
