How do you manage to fit a lifetime of angst, rage and passion into less than three minutes? I know what you’re thinking and no, I haven’t decided to go all smutty. I’m talking about the 2.48 of pure ecstasy that is the latest sounds from NYC’s Imaginary People.
Sweet lord this is the good stuff – there’s not an instant where guns aren’t firing on all cylinders and the guitar-shaped weapons that are blasting away at your ears are filled to the brim with the most exciting layer of fuzz that makes them so much more powerful. As the vocals whimper and shake with the raw power of everything else flowing away under foot, you’ll find yourself getting so caught up in these sounds that if you just turn the volume up a notch it’ll feel like you’re out in a lovely, sweaty-as-you-like venue on a Friday night at the end of hours upon hours of forceful, driven music. There’s more drama in this music than a month of Hollyoaks and it feels as though someone might have cut the brakes.
Sure, you might be heading for a big explosion but at least the right music is playing for such an exciting conclusion.
