Rormix Picks

Rormix Picks #9

After another few days on being away from technology in all internet-based forms (besides from the occasional use of mobile internet to check for important emails/football results) I’m once again leaving you in the more then capable hands of the Rormix team to guide you through this Tuesday morning. Download Rormix, it’s worth it. I don’t get paid for this, I genuinely think it’s good! Anyway, here are your picks for this week;

Rich Girls – Worse
Rich Girls started as the solo project of Luisa Black with an EP release — ‘The One I Want’ — on Tricycle Records in 2013. ‘Fiver’ is due out on Breakup Records in October 2014. Sounds like: garage-y torch songs from the dark end of the street.

Moses Gunn Collective – Shalala
Moses Gunn Collective is a 4-piece psych-rock band from Brisbane, Australia. By combining psychedelic dream pop with soulful crooning and howling riffs the band creates music that feels classic and refreshing all at once. They state a few of their influences for their track ‘Shalala’ are The Doors, Bob Dylan and Nick Cave – so basically you can’t go wrong. The result is easy-going psych pop – despite the songs theme of life and death.

The Swiines – Love Is Blind
The Swiines are a four piece indie/alternative outfit from Clifton, Nottingham. You may have heard of their lead singer, Scott Bugg, cousin of Nottingham’s very own Jake Bugg. The band have been favourites for support slots, having toured the UK with Reverend and the Makers, The Rifles, Circa Waves, Dexters, The Subways, The Hot Rats and of course, Jake Bugg – who they are touring with again this October.
Moon Duo – Ich Werde Sehen
Moon Duo were formed in San Francisco in 2009 by Wooden Shijps guitarist Ripley Johnson and Sanae Yamada. Their debut album Mazes was recorded in San Francisco and mixed in Berlin during 2010, and it’s the sound of Moon Duo carving out their own identity, looking to the horizon, and moving forward.

Late 2011 saw the release of the darker, mostly instrumental Horror Tour EP around the band’s fall tour of Eastern Europe; Record Store Day 2012 brought a limited edition LP Mazes Remixed which featured remixes by the likes of Sonic Boom, Psychic Ills, and Purling Hiss. Now Moon Duo are set to release Circles, their second full-length LP with Souterrain Transmissions. The band will also set off on a worldwide tour in support of the album in October and November.

Zola Jesus – Fall Back

In the last three years, Nika Roza Danilova has gone from being an outsider, experimental, teenage noise-maker to a fully-fledged, internationally-celebrated, electronic-pop musician.  She has emerged as a figurehead — a self-produced, self-designed, self-taught independent woman.

We’re really excited to feature her video ‘Fall Back’, which was the first single from her album ‘Versions’ to be transformed into a video. Allie Avatal directed the intense, black and white video, which features Nika surrounded by stone structures and desolated woods with fire and water flowing around her.

And you’ll be hearing something from me a little later on today… Click the images for the videos, but you’re smart enough to have worked that out!
