After opening up as if it were either something Pete Townshend discarded from one of his prime works or one of the finer musical efforts from The Mighty Boosh, The Moth Lantern have crafted something excellent in the form of ‘End Of Summer‘ that really is a song for anyone that loves raw passion in their music.
There are echoes of Maximo Park’s first couple of albums in the construction of the song but, truthfully, the range of comparisons I could list is potentially endless. The band have managed to capture that essence of sheer musical glory in this track, making it one that could comfortably rival any cult classic. You don’t think you’re ever going to quite be hit by the sledgehammer, in fact the anticipation is perhaps what makes the song so addictive, yet there is a magnificent full-frontal aural assault at the tail end of the track which will blow you away.
It’s no surprise that the band have garnered plenty of love from the 6Music crew and I’m hoping that we’ll be hearing plenty more from The Moth Lantern for years to come.
Oh, and what a lovely bass sound!
