Perhaps a little more pop-infused than most things I’ll pick up, this offering from Twin Hidden is a cultured example of how a solid musical education can make for incredible songwriting. There are elements of classical piano, choir-esque harmonies and hints of musical theatre woven into the impeccably woven tapestry that is ‘Join Hands‘.
You might not be expecting quite such a warm, fulfilling sound as the one you’re presented with once the track bursts into life yet there are plenty of surprises to be had with this track, including the used of a bass drum at times as if it were involved in something a little more electronic. This could easily be a show-stopping emotional piece of art fit for Wicked, or just about any other West End show not set in the roaring 20s. The song is rife with feelings and it captures the essence of a heart-felt plea perfectly. There are hints of jazz-infused influences hidden not-so-deeply within the fabric of the song and it takes all the best elements of Everything Everything, combining them with a much more impressive musical knowledge than you might first expect.
This is a real heart-wrangler, if it doesn’t capture your imagination you may need to get out and experience the world. Sometimes all you need is to step outside.
