Ominous, mysterious and pretty much disorientating all round. Just the way I like them. When an artist takes a risk like the one Stella Got takes by not simply treading the line of making mainstream music the way that everyone might expect, they’re able to come up with something brilliant such as ‘Like A Rope‘.
Sure, when the song gets into full flow the vocal line is similar to things you may have heard before yet it needs this familiar grounding to make sure that you’re able to identify with the track and Stella’s darling voice is a more than appropriate guide for the dark journey that the music will take you on. With instruments rushing rapidly out of the woodwork to surprise you and distort your pre-conceptions about whether or not everything that surrounds you in real, this track become a real adventure and the constant developments feel like an ever-winding path upon which your feet tread perilously each time, never knowing quite whether or not the next time you put your foot down may be the last before you simply disappear.
What a wonderfully constructed piece of music, I’m still not quite sure if my brain has returned to the real world or not and, frankly, I don’t care.
