With a name like ticktock, Sebastian Zieler may not be as likely to go down in history as one of the Great Danes such as Peter Schmeichel or Hamlet yet his music is of just as high (if not higher) calibre as one of the great goalkeeper’s match-winning saves.
It feels as though Kraftwerk have spent a few days on the road with George Clinton and picked up a thing or two, the synth sounds have a wee bit more character than your average electronic performance and the rhythmic patterns that flow throughout manage to incorporate both a marching style and on old-school Afircan drumming feel. There’s no shortage of inspiration scattered throughout the track but the final product is something that feels somewhat brand new altogether. Is this a sign of things to come? Is it time that things got a bit more creative once more by drawing on past inspiration and actually concocting sounds that have that much-wanted balance between familiarity and uniqueness?
Maybe it is indeed time for something new and, if ticktock is leading the way, this might just be the school of thought to be followed.
