The biggest allure about Loredo for me has always been the distinctively-low voice of Stuart Bennett that leads the line, though in all fairness they’ve never done anything that I’ve ever found anything less than impressive. With this latest offering, they’ve produced a chorus which is likely to be one of the best you’ll hear all year.
Once more the expertly judged guitar riffs from Joe Beckwith and Benjamin Gilbert work excellently in contrast to each other and there’s plenty of praise to be heaped upon the sheer power of the arrangement each time the instantly gratifying chorus comes around. See what I did there? Yes, I know how cheesy it is – I’m not proud. The interplay between guitar and bass in the calmer sections is an utter joy to behold and the balance that the band are able to strike with these sections contrasting the general high-energy level of the performance is exquisite. Every single sound on the record finds the right place to settle and there’s not even the slightest hint of a weak-spot.
With expert production making the most of a very talented bunch of musicians, ‘Instant Gratification Baby‘ is one of the best tracks I’ve heard this year and it’s already been ear-marked for my ‘top tracks of 2015’ list. It doesn’t get much better than this.
