Ever listened to The Cure? Right, think of that but with maybe just a little bit more of a smile on the faces of the band. And maybe a bit less time spent on the look. That’s kind of the vibe of Dublin newcomers Other Creatures who use debut single ‘Luxembourg‘ to set out their stall in style.
Friends since school, the trio certainly have a familiar sound to them – it feels like we’ve been here before yet somehow everything remains nice and fresh as the bass pulses on, pushing forever forward through time with a sense of determination and purpose. The vocals help lift this above the rest as they channel Pixies and the ilk rather than being just another identikit singer found on the indie baggage carousel. Everything is just that tiny bit off-kilter and away from the norm which makes for an intriguing listen that’ll get your Spidey senses tingling as if the Green Goblin were on the loose yet again.
The guitar tone is an unlikely treat and the whole track gives you more than enough to mull over as you chew mindlessly away at your Crunchy Nut. This is a very good way to start.
