Officer – The Waters

Screen shot 2015-02-08 at 19.47.14The first few seconds of this might mislead you a little bit, not in a particularly bad way but if you’re expecting something ambient to follow then you’ll be very much mistaken. Instead of what the opening phrases hint at, we’re presented with a frantic, upbeat powerhouse from Officer as rampant guitars roam free through the fields, accompanied by an array of fine sounds and effects that lead to this track being one that you’re just not going to be able to avoid.

The vocal melody flows so nicely through the track and, whilst it could definitely get away with being a little less heavy on the guitars, there’s a real sense of anxiety and determination that runs through this piece as if it were someone on their way to a job interview that they were an absolute shoe-in for but they weren’t willing to take it lightly. That’s a real element of this track that I love, no decision is taken in anything but the most certain frame of mind and the resulting sounds blend together so well that it’s as if they came ready made as one big blast of musical brilliance.

I’m always a little disappointed when I see that a track as well-rounded and complete as this one has but a few hundred plays on Soundcloud. Go on, step outside of your comfort zone and get this in your ears. You won’t be sorry.
