I’m not afraid to say that I’m not generally a fan of drum and bass but when it’s done right, and produced so well, then there’s nothing quite like it. With an absolutely belting voice and pumping beats, Red Sky Noise are on to a winner with their recently released track ‘Only You (Darkness Inside)‘.
Essentially I got sucked into this because of my love for brass and Red Sky Noise utilise the brass brilliantly, implementing it as a lead instrument, a secondary melody line and part of the machine – all in the space of 3 and a half minutes. The production of this track will blow you away as it instantly belies the band’s low profile and is definitely on par with some of the drum and bass big hitters, despite the obvious disparity in budget. However, these excellent attributes merely pale in comparison as they are dwarfed by the magnificent, soulful voice of Mica Millar who leads us on this racing, pulsating journey. The breakdown also features some simple rhythmic brilliance and helps add a great dynamic contrast to the track yet no matter how talented the rest of the outfit may be, Millar once again returns to blow the listener away and power the track through to an excellent conclusion.
Even if, like me, you’re not well-travelled with this sort of music you’ll be able to enjoy Red Sky Noise as this track is a melodic show-stopper that will have you up and dancing in no time.
