Having described themselves as being ‘a psychedelic musical fusion of Indie, Reggae and Punk’ I have to admit I was a little nervous when I clicked play on the video for ‘Dreamer‘ from The Purple Lights. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the calm but somehow also toe-tapping fusion that instantly filled my ears.
The harsh vocal tones balance well with the general laid back charm of the sound, reggae style drums playing in harmony with delightfully uplifting acoustic sounds. In truth, I’m generally just a sucker for a husky voice and it’s nice to hear that there are people out there who don’t think that being squeaky clean vocally is the be all and end all. There’s a great swinging rhythm carrying the song throughout that matches the pair’s upbeat attitude towards their music.
Perhaps a little more development within the song wouldn’t go amiss but overall this is a solid effort that has a genuine, honest feel-good factor that can help brighten your day.
