Ever wonder what music those rather trendy looking people you walk past in the street are listening to? It could well be the tunes of Girl In A Thunderbolt as they come fully-equipped with an attitude that screams ‘I’m far too cool for you’. That’s because they probably are. There’s nothing you can do about it, some people are born with it, for others there’s Maybell… Sorry, dosed off there.
There’s a swagger embedded within the core of ‘Silver Phoenix‘ and it bubbles into life from the moment the semi-drone guitar and the almost monotonous vocals enter the fray. Lyrically confident and musically comfortable to rest on its haunches as if to intimidate an opponent, I’d recommend being wary as you approach this particularly feisty bird and it has sharpened claws and instincts swift enough to put an end to any competition with a single blow. As I sit here transfixed by the aura that emanates from the almost psychedelic nature of the song I’m not sure exactly how I’m supposed to respond but I do love it so much when music is able to confuse you in such a bewildering way as this.
You might find yourself being led into the darkness by a mysterious figure. I say go for it, what’s the worst that could happen?
