Rebecca Clements – Boys Don’t Cry

Screen shot 2015-04-24 at 15.42.47I don’t think I’ve ever written about a cover on WCT before. Then again, I don’t think anyone has tackled one of my favourite songs in such a fantastic way as this.

Fairly different from the Reel Big Fish cover of the same song by The Cure (seriously, this is awesome!), Rebecca Clements takes a much more measured approach to her re-working that’ll have your heart-strings feel like they’re being tugged along by a runaway train. Her darling voice is as effortlessly brilliant as it is on her own collection of songs, this is how we should be teaching young people to sing as opposed to all that over the top nonsense – there’s more soul and character in a single word of this cover than you’ll hear from any budding songstress that tries to make a single-syllabled word last for a minute and a half. But there’s no faults whatsoever in this delightful three minutes of music.

It made this (23-year-old) boy very nearly tear up. Thankfully, boys don’t cry.

Sorry.

Actually, no I’m not, it won’t change your mind.
