I’d barely even put my mug of tea to my lips before The Bloom made me jump with a sudden burst of upbeat music. After a quick visit to the bathroom, to change my tea-stained shirt of course, I returned to enjoy three and a half minute of indie-pop glory from the Australian songmeister who seems to have already prepped himself for the UK’s summer season.
This inoffensive poppy offering makes for pleasant afternoon listening, perhaps my tea could be easily substituted for a nice cold gin and tonic and my skinny jeans replaced by a pair of surf shorts that haven’t seen the light of day since 2012. But I digress, apologies. Even if you’re not someone that likes the lighter side of so-called ‘indie’ you’ll find it hard to resist these charming sounds as they feel like they’re already set up for you to begin reminiscing about your favourite summers from years gone by. It’s probably impossible to be in a grump when you’ve got such melodic riffs as these flooding your ears, take note of the lovely bassline that runs throughout.
It feels like summer in my ears – I daren’t look out the window, in here it’s feeling pretty warm and toasty thanks to this uplifting corker.
