If I were truly afraid of myself, covering my eyes probably wouldn’t be at the top of my list of things to do. Firstly, I’d have a good shave, a haircut and deck out my wardrobe so that I look like the coolest kid in school. Unfortunately I don’t live in some teen movie and so the result of these actions would probably be me getting kicked out of the school for being a 23-year-old man repeatedly cutting himself as he shaves pathetically in a school bathroom.
I’m getting to the track, honest…
Those of you that can’t resist a bit of emotional, hard-hitting indie pop won’t be able to resist these latest sounds from Young Empires as they’re pretty much everything you could ask for in this style. It’s a bit of a generic sound but if it’s your thing then these lads have got it nailed on. At times it verges on becoming worryingly Coldplay-ish (heaven forbid…) but instead it swaggers back towards the pop belter realm and powers on through with a stunningly high quality level of production.
This probably isn’t for you if you’re a full on indie kid but if you don’t mind a healthy slice of pop it’s well worth trying this on for size.
