As a raft floats upon the murky waters in front of you, giving you the chance to return to your suburban home and that past life you once knew there’s a question the plagues your mind – should I just stay here on this desert island and be serenaded by Honey Moon instead?
Sure, it would be nice to go back to those old home comforts, those family members that assume you’ll never return and that seat on the sofa that you’d spent years perfectly the shape of to achieve maximum comfort yet these last few minutes that have seemed like years have been so pleasant that you’d never want them to end. It feels as though Mac deMarco has leant this bunch his songwriting talent and tools and they’ve moulded it gently into another wave of hypnotic, psychedelic sounds complete with some of the most entertaining guitar riffs and soothing backing vocals that you’ve ever heard. Given the choice, wouldn’t you rather stay for one more day in paradise than return to the daily grind?
Go on, kick that raft away – there’ll be another one along soon enough.
