I don’t know exactly what it is I’m listening to here BUT there’s something rather intoxicating about whatever it is that Wovoka Gentle do and I can’t quite seem to stop myself for getting caught back up in it as if I were a fish with an odd fascination with that plastic bit from the top of a four-pack of beers.
There are all the hallmarks of this being a standard folk song, that’s got a lovely little vibe to it, yet there’s this explosion of electronic and far out sounds that takes it right into the outer reaches. Despite never seemingly making up its mind over whether it’s one thing or another, the mysterious combination of sounds on offer here take your mind away to a rather peculiar place where trees and metallic implements intertwine like some kind of Doctor Who off-shoot that doesn’t have a plot. The psychedelic edge to everything makes it something that you can’t pull yourself away from and it’s sure to take you more than a handful of listens to truly process what exactly is going on in between your ears.
It does feel very right though, very right indeed. Take the plunge – you won’t be sorry!
