Premiere: Jasmine Rodgers – Milky Way

screen-shot-2016-09-16-at-11-44-20If your dad has one of the most easily recognisable voices of all time then how on earth do you go about making music without drawing relentless comparisons? Well, Jasmine Rodgers looks to have done the right thing by creating beautiful music that is so far removed from her father (that bloke from Free/Bad Company and so on) it could be worth their while getting a paternity test…

With just the strumming of a ukulele for company Ms Rodgers ensures that her voice remains at centre stage throughout and, thankfully, she’s far from your run-of-the-mill singer. It’s almost as if you can hear a smile creeping into the corner of her mouth as she soulfully guides you through this two and a half minute gem. When working in such a sparse way the pressure is really on you to do something special with your voice and, for this songstress, that doesn’t even seem like the slightest bit of a challenge. There’s even an uplifting message on hand to help make this the perfect song for making daisy chains in the park or feeding the ducks. I’m not even remotely ashamed of the fact I’d be quite happy doing either right now.

But, while the weather is grim, I think I’ll have to console myself by letting Jasmine Rodgers carry me away with this utter delight.
