Young people these days are always getting pulled up for having a lack of manners but it looks as though The Navettes know a thing or two about their Ps and Qs. The Manchester-based band are rounding off the year with a tidy little number that’ll lift that one corner of your eyebrow as if to say ‘Please, tell me more’.
At times the message and impetus of the band does get a little bit lost and it’s hard to tell if they’re trying to write a pop song, a rocked out track or somewhere in between. While a touch more direction might do them some good it does sound as though there’s a healthy dose of potential in these here sounds – whether that’s in the delightful vocals or the excellent guitar that sparks things into life with hints of Vampire Weekend and the like. The twin voices harmonise as if becoming one force and the rush that comes at the end of the first verse is exactly the sort of thing you could see swooning on the floor of a gig venue to, you know, if that’s your sort of thing.
It’s not quite the polished off product, yet, but there may very well be a bright future ahead for The Navettes if they knuckle down and get things just right.
