Like a bolt straight from the soundtrack of Peaky Blinders, Taboo or whatever other period show BBC One have got lined up that’ll be nice and edgy, this belter from HVMM is a sly, mischievous little devil lined up to make your head tie itself in knots and your eyes roll back so far inside your head you might have trouble finding them.
Cagey and heavily reliant on a deeply uncertain atmosphere, this track is a perfect example of why you don’t need to go in all guns blazing – the most attractive sounds are quite often those who give you just a ‘come hither’ look before enticing you in by playing hard to get. The swagger on these sounds from the Worcester quartet would melt a thousand hearts and the guitars are on hand to swoop up any who might just feel a wee swoon coming on as the delve into this gloriously dark world. Simplicity really is the name of the game here as there’s no attempt to try and wow you with flashy tricks or gimmicks – this is all about letting the music breathe and speak for itself.
That’s all it needs really – this is such a well-crafted, intense piece of music that you should expect to hear it soundtracking something stylish any day now.
