Babe Punch – Control

Screen Shot 2017-06-14 at 18.18.55Smashing out of the gates as if it were a horse dreaming about being chased by a vengeful carrot, this absolute ripper from Midlands-based pop-punkers Babe Punch is one of the most ear-blasting delights I’ve come across this year.

With hints of Beth Ditto’s frenetic attitude in the vocals, this frantically writhing guitar-fuelled tune becomes an absolute monster out of nowhere before rampaging through your head with a kind of reckless abandon usually only reserved for warriors or politicians. The sheer energy will do more for you than an injection of pure coffee and the fact they’ve bottled up whatever teenage angst I’m assuming without cause that they have and blurted it straight out onto the record makes this feel like such a natural outburst of rage and aggression and, above all, shows of an absolute love for the fact they’re making such punchy music. It’s so quick that if your blinks last around one minute and fifty seconds then… Blink and you’ll miss it.

Off the scale, off the charts, off their rockers – this one’s going straight on the stereo. If you like Bikini Kill, this’ll do you right.
