I need to know what this is. I mean, there are so many different influences combining for this beauty from Hydromag that I haven’t even begun to have a clue about how to describe it. Well, I think it’s very good, but I don’t think that’s really a genre. Yet…
It has such a dreamy feel about it reminiscent of Mac DeMarco while the synths feel like a slowed down Joe Goddard track and there remains an energy of a full-fronted club banger in the air despite the ever-so-gentle vocals and guitars. Maybe it’s that bass drum, or the guest vocal, but I really just can’t put a pin on this. Perhaps that’s why I’m finding it so enticing – it just doesn’t feel right to nail this down in black and white to say ‘right, it’s this but it isn’t this’. You get me? Because I’m not even sure if I do any more. The guitar solo is sexier than any of the Gladiators ever were and the way everything melds into a wavey finale is more satisfying than a yogurt that’s not only full fat but EXTRA FAT.
There’s a whole EP of the stuff that’s well worth listening to but it’s this mesmerising offering that stands out because it’s just… Well, what is it? I need to know…
