When May falls, we’ll have April Towers. I don’t know what that means, it just sounded loosely like some kind of proverb from generations gone by and it gave me a short, snappy way to get into this review without rambling on and making a bit of a mess of things. oh…
Anyway, the Nottingham duo seem to channel all kinds of dance and indie vibes with everything from Pet Shop Boys, Talking Heads and your everyday indie guitar icons seemingly swirling together somewhere in this mix. There’s never quite a settled feel of where your head should be at but that pulsing beat and the initial guitar riff do a steady job of keeping you from getting genre vertigo. Personally, I’m a big fan of the slightly lighter guitar that flutters about without a care in the world like it’s a butterfly who has just had one hell of a night on the pingers. The basic rhythm at the heart of this all makes this so easy to slip into and the quality production means this wouldn’t sound out of place on any kind of popular playlist.
I hear that’s what the kids like nowadays anyway, just playlists and no sad gits rambling on endlessly. Nobody is any fun any more… Oh, yeah you should definitely listen to this. Kapiche?
