Warm Digits might be one of the very best outfits in the country at the moment. They’re like the Queen’s new hat of bands, in that OH MY GOD WHY ISN’T EVERYBODY TALKING ABOUT THE QUEEN’S NEW HAT kind of way. Having seen them, mostly thanks to the rain, at Green Man Festival recently I can’t stress enough how much better this stuff sounds live – and it’s pretty damn boss on the record in the first place!
Their latest single sees Sarah Cracknell of Saint Etienne take on vocal duties and her stunning voice fits neatly into the middle of the whizzing electronic blender created by the Geordie duo. Chaos reigns supreme as sounds fly around so frantically you’d thing each and every note had been adding some speed to their coffee just before the recording started. It feels like an experimental example of choreographed showing off but really what you’re listening to is the pipe dream of two gentlemen who know exactly what they want to achieve with their music and will do it their way because they ruddy well can.
After that misleading acoustic intro, you’re very much in their hands and there’s not a better place in the world to be.
