Palm Honey – Starving Hysterical Naked (Part One & Two)

Screen Shot 2017-09-22 at 15.34.58Creators of what remains to be my favourite EP of 2017, Palm Honey have written something so damn good they’ve had to split it into two parts. I’m not entirely sure why, as I haven’t bothered to read the press release, yet I’m sure it was a great reason and we should be praising them as if they were not mere mortals.

As effortlessly psychedelic as you’ve come to expect from the Reading-based band, this is just so charmingly fuzzy that you’d be forgiven it was something you could give to a pet or a loved one. The bass is almost cheeky and playful, the drums are composed and somehow kind of kaleidoscopic – though that might be the acid kicking in… Yet it’s the guitars that pave the way for the vocals that have that ‘cool’ essence so many crave and fail to muster. The further you dip your toe into this world, the more you’ll love how twisted and peculiar it all gets. The second part takes a cue from the mighty Focus, of ‘Hocus Pocus‘ fame, as it continues to keep things suitably weird and my jaw equally dropped.

I love them, can I say that? Is it too soon? Look, my cards are on the table. I love Palm Honey and I don’t care who knows it.
