Summertime, and the livin’ is easy… No? This isn’t a cover of the Gershwin classic? Nevermind, I thought maybe LUCIA had decided to pay tribute to Porgy & Bess in their own inimitable style.
Still, what they’ve done instead makes for an impressive listen anyway and it’s nice to hear the Glaswegian foursome take a slightly lighter tint with their latest track to match up with all that lovely weather we’ve been having. Lucia Fairfull has an incredibly powerful stage presence and her voice dominates on this latest ripper, particularly as things start to rise ahead of the final chorus. They’ve gone full on three-minute-catchy-tune here and it’s the kind of thing most of us could really do with to take our minds of all that stuff happening in the real world. But why on earth would you want to live in reality when you can escape into tunes such as this that make you want to do the monkey, the twist, the mash potato and all sorts of other things you did last summer.
I’m also disappointed that this isn’t a tribute to The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff, but then could anyone really do a better version of that stone cold classic?
