Let’s preface this with one simple fact. I love jazz. So, when hearing this Havana Swim Club track I was immediately hooked from hearing familiar sounds and the way they’d been carefully altered and updated to make something perfect for 21st century lazy days.
With an album of instrumental reworks and remixes on the way in June, the mad scientist Dan Koch behind this all shows his ability behind a screen far outweighs my Rollercoaster Tycoon skills accrued during lockdown. The smoothness of the samples never fades and the new sounds Koch throws into the mix – yes, even the slightly creepy laughs – make for a pleasant modern day update.
This won’t necessarily be for everyone, but for me it’s a cracking way to show appreciation for music from a ‘golden era’ and keep it fresher than a Tic-Tac chainer’s breath.
