Dan Croll is back and, boy, he’s got a Big One (wink wink, nudge nudge). This latest track is yet another sound drenched in nostalgia for a time when music was all about feeling good and having fun.
The lyrics are somewhat more introspective though, and not entirely positive, yet it’s still impossible to not feel somewhat jolly as this one races by with all kinds of bright colourful sounds whacked in for good measure. This is all about the claustrophobia of the last year and, as someone who also has a particularly loud upstairs neighbour, it’s easy to identify with Croll’s struggles and the anxiety that a less than ideal living situation can bring.
‘I hate the neighbours, Valerie for sure’ is one of my favourite lyrics of the year. There should be more outright targeted attacks in jolly sounding music. Go suck a big one, Valerie.
