Is Mewn the past tense of a cat’s meow? I’ve been thinking about this since the last time I heard the Manchester band and haven’t actually bothered to search it or seek professional help yet. Lord knows I need it.
But asinine feline banter aside, here’s a lovely little waltz for you to parade around the room to. While the piano leads the movement and the guitars add an almost eerie intensity, there’s a modern day song hidden away in here some where. Even the vocals take their cue from the dancing piano, with growing crescendos a real delight before blissed out slower movements which allow the mind (and body, if you were moved enough to actually waltz) a welcome opportunity to rest. With a melancholic sound, the band keep on striking up the beat to cries of more and continue for almost seven minutes of unsettling yet enticing beauty.
One two three, one two three, waltz with me, laugh with me, cry with me, save me please, it’s all threes, I can’t stop, oh god why, is this life, is this me…
